Recuenco is the northernmost peak of the Sierra de Gobea mountain range, marking the eastern boundary of the park. There are several routes to reach the summit of Recuenco, and the one we have selected here begins in the village of Lahoz.

The hike starts on the path to the right of the first house in the village. We soon reach a small pond and some watering troughs, where we ignore the turnoff to the right. The track begins to ascend gently through open terrain, although shortly after, next to a sign, we leave the path to take a track to the right that descends to the river, crosses it, and leads to a large meadow where cattle graze freely. Here, we look for a path that climbs the slope bordering the meadow on the right and, further up, skirts below a Scots pine forest, until we reach a wire fence that we must cross (20 minutes). We now follow a beautiful path that will take us uphill towards the Lerón pass. At this point, the terrain opens up. The views of the cliff from here are spectacular. We continue north to reach Recuenco (1 hour). From here, to enjoy even better views, we’ll head towards the menhir, where we’ll be rewarded with a unique panorama (1 hour 5 minutes). For the descent, we can choose to repeat the ascent route or follow the cliff to the narrow Barrerón pass (1 hour 35 minutes), through which we’ll begin the descent to the valley and eventually rejoin the ascent route.
