Santa Catalina Botanical Garden
The Santa Catalina Botanical Garden is located within the ruins of the palace-convent of the same name (13th-14th centuries), on the southeastern slope of the Badaya mountain range, very close to the town of Trespuentes, 5 km from Nanclares de la Oca and 12 km from the city of Vitoria.
The complex, covering an area of over three hectares, is surrounded by a deteriorated stone wall and encloses the ruins of an old palace, convent, and church, as well as the remains of ancient agricultural terraces and an interesting stand of holm oaks, representative of the original holm oak forest that once covered the entire Badaya mountain range.
The topography of this natural environment defines three distinct areas. To the right is the sunny, south-facing area, characterized by Mediterranean flora. To the left is the shady, north-facing area, which supports Atlantic-type vegetation. And finally, the valley floor with its impressive ruins marks a mixed zone of vegetation and climatic conditions. These three sections highlight the plant life of this garden.
The garden also features an interpretation center that houses the permanent exhibition.
